This app is like the Uber, but for garbage truck drivers.

Lab1 was tasked with a complete redesign of a mission-critical in-cab tablet application, supporting thousands of professional drivers across the UK. Used in demanding commercial waste operations, the product helps drivers stay informed, complete tasks efficiently, and navigate complex workflows on the move.

Our challenge was to rethink the experience end to end — transforming an established product with new capabilities and a radically improved user experience. With a strong focus on ergonomics, readability, and intuitive interactions, we designed an interface that reduces cognitive load and puts driver safety first, even in the most demanding working conditions.

From freezing winter mornings to scorching summer days, truck drivers work in constantly changing conditions. Bright sunlight, complete darkness, and everything in between. We designed every detail around these realities — from a carefully crafted dark mode to large, comfortable touch targets and exceptionally readable typography.

To make the transition effortless, we preserved familiar workflows wherever possible, keeping the learning curve to a minimum. Behind this familiar experience, we built an entirely new visual language and a comprehensive design system — bringing clarity, consistency, and usability to every interaction.
